Bryce's Story

From as far back as I can remember I have always been excited about flying. Growing up I used to hike up the sand dunes surrounding the airport in Florence, Oregon just so I could watch the UPS pilot buzz over my head on his daily mail run. I took my first flight lesson after finishing high school and was hooked from day one. Three months later and I had my license.

In 2008 I moved to Corvallis to attend Oregon State University. Wanting to continue flying, I came to Corvallis Aero Service in hopes of earning my instrument rating. I was really impressed with the quality the instruction I received during my training. I did my primary flight training at a very large flight school, so the personal training atmosphere at Corvallis was a welcome change.

After graduation I briefly worked as a biologist before deciding that flying was my true passion. Remembering the great experience that I had at Corvallis Aero Service, I decided to move back to the area pursue my career goals of becoming a commercial pilot and flight instructor. Their instructors worked one-on-one with me so that by the day of the check ride I felt more than prepared. Maybe 15 minutes after passing my CFI check ride I was offered a job as instructor here.

My experience as a flight instructor has been great. I still can't believe that people actually pay me to go flying every day. Teaching has definitely sharpened my own skills and made me a better pilot. Perhaps one of the most memorable moments I've had as an instructor was after my first student soloed. Watching a student fly by themselves for the first time is extremely satisfying.

I'm lucky to have a job where I actually look forward to going to work, and I really enjoy being able to pass on my knowledge, skills, and passion for aviation to my students.
